In the credit card feed, block transactions serve as indicators marking the beginnings and endings of individual transactions. Certain credit card providers (for example VISA_VCF) will arrange the data in blocks of information within the same file, for example 05 and 8 would indicate the start of a block where credit card transaction activity is located and code 05 and 9 would indicate the end of the block. This way the rest of the blocks from the file can be easily filtered out as needed. Given that the credit card feed includes data beyond transactions themselves, these block symbols or characters clearly indicate where transactions are located within the feed.
