Bulgaria’s Transition to the Euro – Effective January 1, 2026
Effective January 1, 2026, Bulgaria will adopt the Euro (EUR) as its official currency, replacing the Bulgarian Lev (BGN).
There will be a one-month parallel circulation period (January 1–31, 2026) during which both BGN and EUR will be accepted as legal tender. During this period, the fixed conversion rate will be:
EUR 1 = BGN 1.95583
The Euro will use the ISO currency code EUR and the currency symbol €.
